Polish Town has a new queen.

Claudia Zacharewicz, 17, of Jamesport was crowned this year’s Polish Town Queen during a Saturday afternoon ceremony at Baiting Hollow’s Cooperage Inn. An incoming senior at Riverhead High School, Claudia was one of six girls to compete in the 2015 contest, which has been sponsored by the Polish Town Civic Association since 1976.

“I wanted to make my parents proud and I thought it was going to be something fun, something new to do,” Claudia said following her coronation.

As queen, she will preside over this summer’s Polish Town Fair and Festival, in addition to other events.

Claudia’s mother, Iwona, who emigrated from Poland to the United States with her husband in 1993, said her daughter absolutely achieved her goal of making her parents proud.

“It’s very nice because she’s beautiful,” Ms. Zacharewicz said. “She deserves it.”
