Riverhead News: Blind and Sighted meeting at Old Steeple church

The Riverhead Key Club held its installation of officers for 2015-16 on June 11 at Riverhead Fire Department. They are: president, Shannon Zeltmann; vice president, Abby Brophy; and secretary, Sara Brennan. The club hopes that when school begins in the fall Key Club officers and members will encourage students to join and that one student will fill the role of treasurer. Thank you to the outgoing officers, who did a superb job in 2014-15. They are: president, Rebecca Campainco; vice president, Kaitlyn Talmage; secretary, Kimberly Guthrie; and treasurer, Michelle Hattorff. Some of the community events the Key Club is involved in include the Hallockville and Breast Cancer Awareness walks, the Riverhead Country Fair, and “Be Homeless” night. They also give “Going Green” lessons, ring the bell for The Salvation Army, go caroling, collect food for the needy and put together the “Senior” prom, which is held at the Riverhead Care Center in June. This year’s theme was “Under the Sea.” Everyone had a great time. Key Club adviser Louise Wilkinson does an excellent job with her members, who plan all the events. The Key Club has received the Future Corps Award from Newsday for the last three years. What an accomplishment!

The Blind and Sighted group is looking for new members. Meetings are held Mondays at 10 a.m. at Old Steeple Community Church on Main Road in Aquebogue. Refreshments are served and all are welcome. What a great way to meet friends and get involved.
