Cops: Fugitive from California caught on Main Street

A woman who allegedly fled from California to escape drugs charges was caught in Riverhead Tuesday night, according to a Riverhead police news release.

Melissa Ann Williams, 44, was stopped on East Main Street about 11:20 p.m. after causing a “disturbance,” police said. An officer discovered she was wanted for “drug related charges,” according to the release. Police did not detail what specific charges Ms. Williams faces, but said she was wanted for drug possession.

After confirming the warrant, Riverhead police took Ms. Williams — who was living in Hampton Bays — into custody to be extradicted to Humboldt County in California to answer the charges.
