RECAP: Board discusses buildings that don’t meet zoning

The Riverhead Town Board discussed at Thursday’s work session pre-existing nonconforming dwellings, which can have a use that doesn’t conform to zoning so long as it pre-dates the existence of zoning.

The Town Code also allows one pre-existing, non-conforming use to be exchanged with another, with ZBA approval, something officials say is unique to Riverhead.

The board also discussed an amendment to its site plan regulations and the draft resolutions planned for Tuesday’s meeting.
