The Suffolk County Boy Scouts of America have launched a online crowdfunding campaign to raise $15,000 for water sports equipment at the Baiting Hollow Scout Camp.

They’re already halfway there.

The online fundraiser would cover the purchase of log rollers, eight canoes, and six stand up paddle boards, according to a Boy Scouts news release. So far, the scouts have raised more than $6,600 of their goal.

“In order for us to continue serving future generations at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp, we need your help,” said Boy Scouts director of developmentJoanne Courtien. “Every dollar is needed, appreciated, and counts.”

According to the Boy Scouts, 7,000 scouts camped at Baiting Hollow Scout Camp last year through a combination of summer camps, parent-cub weekends, troop weekend camping, and specialty camps.

“And while the natural beauty and resources available are top notch, equipment is in need of some serious updating,” according to the organization.

The fundraiser, called “Wake Up our Waterfront,” will end in September. Any person who makes a donation of $100 or more will be entered in a drawing for a GoPro HERO with waterproof housing.

The drawing for that prize will be held on September 7, 2015, according to the group’s funding site.
