Cops: Trapped driver extricated following crash in Calverton

Edwards Avenue accident

A driver was extricated from his vehicle following a two-car crash Friday morning in Calverton, Riverhead Town police at the scene said.

A man was driving a gray Honda Civic at around 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of exit 71 off the Long Island Expressway and Nugent Drive in Calverton when his vehicle collided with a Honda CRV heading south on Nugent Drive, police said.

Riverhead Fire Department officials had to cut the door of the Honda Civic to rescue the trapped driver, police said.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment, officials said.
