Aquebogue News: Sign up for Sound to Bay 10K

I hope you’re enjoying your summer vacation! If you haven’t made it to the beach yet, now is the time. Don’t miss out on this great treasure we have on the North Fork. My husband is not much of a beach person so we like to do other local fun activities.

Hallockville Museum Farm is our go-to place for adventures year round. This summer they are running some interesting farm tours. There’s one more tour on Friday, July 31. Learn about the history of the Hallock family and the many facets of farming life on Sound Avenue. The tour — offered at 12:30 and 3 p.m. — includes the historic Homestead Barn and takes about 45 to 50 minutes.

Another guided tour features the interior spaces including the Cichanowicz Farmhouse, Trubisz House and Naugles Barn. Each tells the story of the eastern European immigrants who settled on the East End in the early 1900s and began farming. The interior of the Cichanowicz Farmhouse depicts what life would have been like for the typical Polish farming family during the Great Depression, while the Trubisz House boasts a varied history as well. This tour takes approximately 50 minutes and is offered at 1:45 p.m. Cost for either tour; $7, adults; $5, seniors and children. For more information, call 298-5292.

The Riverhead Elks Lodge will host a lobster barbecue Sunday, Aug. 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. The event features live music, raffles and a 50/50. The meal includes a whole lobster, half a chicken, sides, watermelon, tap beer, wine and soda. Cost is $40; chicken only (no lobster), $25. Call 727-2027 or stop in at the lodge at 1239 East Main St.
