Calverton News: Visit your local farm stands

It still feels like summer, as well it should. Amazing as it might seem, it’s almost August. What happened?

Congratulations to my son Rob, who told us last week he would be racing the Late Model car he built at Riverhead Raceway Saturday night. He had raced twice before and we made it through without a coronary so we figured, what’s 30 more laps? Upon arrival we discovered it was 50 laps — a bit of news he omitted to tell us. He did great and Julia and Aiden are very proud of their daddy!

Baiting Hollow Congregational Church will host a chicken barbecue this Saturday, Aug. 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. You gotta go. It’s truly the best chicken barbecue around. Cost is $20 for adults ($22 at the door); $10 for children ($12 at the door). You get a big portion and it’s so delicious. Enjoy!

Happy 1st birthday to Brooke Ceberek, who celebrated with a great party this past Sunday. Many kisses and hugs to you from your mommy and daddy and big brother, Bradley.

Happy birthday to Cayleigh Orlowski, who celebrated July 20, and to her brother, Cormac, who will celebrate on Aug. 10. Mom, Dad and all your family and friends wish you both the best birthday ever.

Happy 11th anniversary to Cayleigh and Cormac’s parents, Kerin and Steve, on Aug. 7. Congratulations!

Birthday wishes also go out to my co-worker Patti Hautsch on July 31. Yet another birthday celebrated together, my friend. I hope it’s a great one. And finally, happy birthday to Aunt Kay Davis on Aug. 3. Lots of hugs and kisses to you! You’re an awesome person!

Don’t forget to support your local farm stands. Everything’s fresh and wonderful — peaches, blueberries, raspberries, corn, broccoli, cauliflower and more.

Until next time, be safe, keep cool and I’ll talk to you soon. Take care. Bye.
