Victoriano Cohon-Garcia, 34, of Riverhead was found face down in the water on the north side of Grangebel Park near a footbridge, police said.

At this time, the death does not appear to be criminal in nature and the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department Detective Division at 631- 727-4500.

Original story: A man was found dead in the Peconic River late this afternoon, floating face-down near Grangebel Park, according to police.

Lt. Rick Boden said that the Hispanic male, whose name will be release pending notification of next of kin, was found shortly after 5 p.m. and appeared to have been in the water “for a few hours.”

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner was called to the scene and will perform an autopsy, though Lt. Boden said the death does not appear to be suspicious.
