Featured Letter: Respect local residents when scheduling bike events

To the editor:

Our Town Board continues to disappoint by showing a lack of respect for local residents.

The latest transgression against residents was its granting of permits for running and bicycle racing on Sunday morning along church routes.

This Sunday, many local residents, including myself, were delayed to church services because of the latest race that crossed not only the Main Road in Riverhead, but Elton Avenue. We understand the positive impact that these events have on our economy and are proud to share the beauty of our town with others; however, the board would serve the residents of the community better when granting permits for these events with consideration of church routes and times of service.

Just think of all the fun we’ll have when the pumpkin pickers arrive.
