Aquebogue News: Check out the copper-smithing workshop Saturday

Jamesport Fire Department’s Long Island Sound to Peconic Bay 10K/5K Run is just around the corner! You can still take advantage of the pre-registration price ($25) as long as you register by Aug. 15. T-shirts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is $30 on the day of the race. I just downloaded the application for me and two of my kids. I’m going to run as much as I can and walk if needed. The goal is simply to KEEP MOVING! For more information, email Robert Sikora at [email protected] or visit http://jfd10krun.com. Please join us at this wonderful community event. I’ll see you at the finish line — eventually!

Hallockville Museum Farm will host a very cool workshop on copper-smithing this Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn how to make a simple copper bowl from flat copper stock using only hand tools and primitive forms. Good for many uses, your beautifully handcrafted copper bowl will catch everyone’s attention. Ages 16 and up; advance registration required. Cost: $60/$50 museum members, includes materials, access to tools and instruction by master woodworker, artisan and professional educator Tom Barry. To register, call 298-5292 or email [email protected].

Johanna and I have had a whirlwind summer, traveling for family events and book tours. My little miracle is growing up! Now that she is speaking with me and signing books, Johanna tells people that being an inspirational speaker is her new career! How fun is that? Well, I wanted to officially wish Johanna Benthal a very happy 19th birthday on Aug. 14. We will be celebrating with family this weekend. My daughter will be coming up from DC and all my kids will be home to celebrate Johanna’s big day! God bless you, Johanna, and thank you for being an inspiration off and on the stage!

I hope you have a wonderful week. Enjoy the final weeks of summer by going to the beach and spending time outdoors. Summer is a wonderful way to reconnect with nature and our own hearts. Have fun!
