Police: Pair arguing in car arrested in Riverside

Southampton Police arrested two Riverhead women early Thursday morning after the two — one of whom was allegedly drunk — got into an argument in a car on Lake Avenue on Riverside, police said.

According to authorities, the two were seen arguing in a running car around 2:45 a.m. and a subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the car, 23-year-old Amelia Torres, was drunk. She was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge.

Police said that the passenger in the car, 26-year-old Ashley Thomas, “ignored multiple requests to leave the scene of her friend’s arrest.” She allegedly threw a water bottle across a parking lot, police said. She was arrested for obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest — both misdemeanors — and cited for littering, a town code violation.
