Police: Man airlifted after hit while driving Harley

Police said a man was airlifted yesterday after he was hit while driving his motorcycle on Route 104 in Northampton.

According to Southampton Police, 29-year-old Jamie Espana was driving his 2009 Honda Civic southbound on Route 104 around noon when he attempted to make a left. He collided with a 2003 Harley Davidson which was being ridden by 68-year-old Malcolm Smith, whose residence was not provided by police.

Police said Mr. Espana failed to yield, issuing him a summons, however no further charges are expected to be filed police said.

Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene, transporting Mr. Smith to the county center in Riverside where he was picked up by a helicopter and transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Mr. Smith was listed in fair condition Saturday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
