Flanders News: Another round of happy birthdays

Hello, friends and neighbors. Are you loving this heat as much as I am?

I love everything about summer — sunsets on the Sound, ice cream, barbecues, the sound of insects buzzing in the trees at night, the fan blowing on me when I’m sleeping, and eating locally grown fruits and vegetables. Summer’s winding down and school will be starting soon. I’m taking my daughter back to college next Saturday and although I’ll miss her terribly, I’m so proud of her and her determination to succeed. Best wishes to all the students who are starting classes in the next couple of weeks. Also, good luck to the parents who will experience empty-nest syndrome for the first time. Don’t worry, they’ll be fine.

FRNCA will host Family Movie Night with the screening of “Despicable Me 2” tonight, Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7 o’clock at the David Crohan Community Center, 655 Flanders Road, Flanders. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and snacks will be available. Admission for non-members is $5; members, $4. I heard the last movie was a great success and everyone had a lot of fun. Take the kids, spend the evening in cool comfort, and enjoy a midweek night out.

Don’t forget! The Friends of the Big Duck rubber duck race will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at noon. If you haven’t preregistered, the Friends will be there at 11 a.m. selling ducks. There will be some really great prizes, and refreshments will be available. Admission is free; each duck entry is only $5. For more information or to preregister, call Ms. Fran at 727-5342. I hope they reach record numbers this year! I am unable to attend but would like to see photos and hear about all the fun everyone had.

Happy birthday to my cousin Krystle Tribuzio and my friend John Graziano today, Thursday, Aug. 20; Pete Blasl and Debbie Bahner, Aug. 21; Kim Overton, who’s reading this in Virginia, Aug. 22; Maybeth Roehrig, Aug. 25; Shelley Robinson, Aug. 26; Sandi Goodwin, Lewis Loatmann and Trish Jeski, Aug. 27; Ryan Dupuis and Barbara Oliver, Aug. 29; Glenn Meyer, Aug. 31; and Melissa Kujawski and Kim Allen, Sept. 2. I hope everyone has a great day. Celebrate!

That’s all for this week. I’m very happy that I’ve received a few emails with news to share but I’d really like to receive some more. So, while you’re thinking of it, send me a quick message about any upcoming special event or celebration that I can share with the community. Thanks for reading!
