PBMC unveils its new post-surgical care unit

A dedication and ribbon cutting Friday afternoon celebrated the opening of Peconic Bay Medical Center’s Zinberg Progressive Care Unit, a new facility for patients in need of intermediate care following surgery.

“I would like to extend a special thanks to Stan and Peggy Zinberg, as their giving and leadership has had a transformational impact within our hospital,” said Andrew Mitchell, the president and CEO of PBMC, in a statement.

Donations for the unit came from far and wide, even the children of PBMC’s Chief of Surgery, Dr. Steven Ouzonian. His children, Victoria (18), Michael (12) and William (11), took their 12 years of savings and donated the money to help other patients in the community. The children said they were inspired after hearing Mr. Zinberg, who’s a physician, speak about the importance of philanthropy.

Mr. Zinberg and his wife, who’s a nurse, provided the lead gift for the project.

The private rooms in the new care unit feature special amenities for family and caregivers.
