Elizabeth M. Schnebel

Longtime former Riverhead resident Elizabeth M. Schnebel died Sept. 2 at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood. She was 96. 

She was born May 7, 1919, in Richmond Hill, Queens, to Elizabeth (Brennan) and Peter Kelly.

For over 20 years, Ms. Schnebel worked as a clerk for the New York State Unemployment Office in Riverhead.

Family members said she was very involved with St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead and was a member of its Rosary Society and various other church groups. She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces, who family members said were like children to her.

Predeceased by her first husband, Frank Leach, over 45 years ago and her second husband, Raymond Schnebel, in 2001, Ms. Schnebel is survived by her nieces, Joan Delsandro of Lake Ronkonkoma and Patricia Rudolph of Islip Terrace.

A funeral service was held Sept. 4 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 5 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. Interment took place at the church cemetery.
