A Calverton teenager is listed in serious condition after his dirt bike crashed into an SUV on Edwards Avenue Friday night near the Long Island Expressway off-ramp, Suffolk County police confirmed Saturday.

The 17-year-old victim — who hasn’t been identified — was traveling south on Edwards Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. when his 2001 Yamaha dirt bike collided with a 2014 Chevy Equinox, police said.

The dirt bike rider was wearing a helmet and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated for head injuries, Sgt. Dave Kopycinski said at the scene.

The 48-year-old female driver and her three passengers — one adult and two 10-year-old children — weren’t injured, officials said.

No tickets were issued and the road surrounding the crash was closed for about an hour during the rescue efforts, police said.

Calverton Hills resident Melissa Jackson said she heard the crash, adding accidents at the intersection located about 100 yards south of the LIE aren’t uncommon.

“There are always accidents right there — this is a bad area,” she said. “It didn’t even sound like there were brakes. Just, ‘boom.'”
