Cops: Mother went out and left 4-year-old in apartment alone

A 25-year-old Riverhead woman was arrested on endangering the welfare of a child charges Friday after she allegedly left her 4-year-old daughter home alone while she went out “socializing,” according to Riverhead Town police.

Cops said Amanda Burris left the child in the River Pointe Apartments complex at 821 East Main Street while she went out. According to a news release, the child was found “wandering the [apartment] complex by herself.”

Police found the child and brought her to police headquarters, where she was later given to a close relative. Ms. Burris was arrested and will be arraigned Saturday, police said.

Child Protective Services were also called to investigate.
