Cops: Riverhead man charged with DWI, drug possession

A 25-year-old man charged with driving drunk in Mattituck early Sunday morning was also arrested on drug charges after police found cocaine in his sock, according to a Southold Town police press release.

Matthew Roberts of Riverhead was driving on Love Lane shortly before 3:30 a.m. when police observed him committing a few traffic violations, including backing into the road unsafely, police said.

During an investigation, police found Mr. Roberts was intoxicated and located two plastic bags containing cocaine, officials said. One bag was found in the suspect’s sock, officials said.

Mr. Roberts was charged with DWI and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said. He was transported to police headquarters and held for an arraignment.
