Art Beat: Four-hands piano concert in Jamesport

• Two pianos, four hands: Charlotte Day of Southold and Jeffrey Wentz of Greenport will give a piano concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at Jamesport Meeting House. The “Coming Back” concert is a benefit for First Universalist Church of Southold, whose building was destroyed by fire in March, and for which Ms. Day is music director.

The program will include compositions by Mozart, Schubert, Debussy and Poulenc.

Ms. Day is also a teacher and solo concert pianist. Mr. Wentz is minister of music at First Congregational Church of Riverhead. The two gave numerous concerts together at the Southold church.

Suggested donation is $20 at the door.

• Work by three East Coast photographers, Susan Dooley, Ray Germann and Dave Burns, will be on view Oct. 3 to Nov. 15 at Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue. The exhibit, “Globetrotting,” includes photographs taken around the United States and abroad. An artists’ reception will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The three photographers will give a free gallery talk at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Call 734-8545 to reserve a seat.

• Orient artist Frances Liburt will present “Variations on a Dream,” an exhibit of her paintings, during October at Mattituck-Laurel Library. Ms. Liburt studies painting with local artist and teacher Lee Harned.

• “Local to Global” is the theme of an ‘Arts Mean Business’ seminar and networking event planned by East End Arts for Thursday, Oct. 8. The event will run from 9 to 11 a.m. at Suffolk Theater in Riverhead.

Speakers will include EEA executive director Patricia Snyder; artist Caitlyn Shea; Riverside Rediscovered community liaison Siris Barrios; Patch­ogue Arts Council president Lori Devlin; Allen Handelman, vice president of development at Conifer Realty, which plans to offer artist-priority housing in Riverhead; and Long Island Arts Alliance executive director Theresa Statz-Smith.

Business owners, artists, arts organizations, local government and community leaders, nonprofit groups and interested individuals are welcome.

Artists are invited to display promotional materials and business cards. The materials deadline is Oct. 2.

The advance registration fee is $10 for East End Arts members and $15 for nonmembers; admission is $20 at the door.

• A reception and awards presentation for the 50th annual photography contest presented by Friends of Riverhead Free Library will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the library.

Quilter Shannon Shirley will present a trunk show at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the Southold Town Recreation Center in Peconic. She will then lead a ‘Bottles and Blooms’ workshop from 9:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the recreation center. All levels of quilters are welcome.

Both programs are hosted by the Eastern Long Island Quilters Guild. Ms. Shirley is an artist, teacher, author and award-winning quilter from Woodbridge, Va.

Call for artists: Work is sought for East End Arts’ Holiday Gift Boutique, which will be open Nov. 14 to Dec. 23 in the EEA gallery.

Artists may submit handmade ornaments, greeting cards, jewelry and wearables, ceramics and giftware. The deadline for the online application is Thursday, Oct. 22; those accepted must become East End Arts members to participate.
