Local fire districts release details on budget increases

Local fire districts have released proposed 2016 budgets, which are all set to be discussed at public hearings on Tuesday, Oct. 20. 

Fire districts are the taxing entity that funds the local fire departments, which are mostly run by volunteers but receive taxes for things such as equipment, facilities and some paid employees.

Below is a breakdown of the tax levy increases for local districts over the current year’s budgets, as well as the public hearing times and locations:

• Riverhead Fire District

2015:   $4,501,596 tax levy

2016:   $4,534,457 tax levy  (a .73 percent increase)

Hearing: Oct 20, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Riverhead fire headquarters on 540 Roanoke Avenue in Riverhead.

• Jamesport Fire District

2015:  $766,833 tax levy

2016:  $772,431 tax levy    (a .73 percent increase)

Hearing: Oct. 20 at 7:30 at Jamesport Fire House on 25 Manor Lane, Jamesport.

• Wading River Fire District

2015:  $2,107,580 tax levy

2016:  $2,223,540 tax levy  (a 5.5 percent increase)

Hearing: Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Fire Headquarters on 1503 North Country Road, Wading River

• Flanders Fire District

2015:  $561,500 tax levy

2016:  $565,000 tax levy   (a .62 percent increase)

Hearing: Oct 20 at 7 p.m. at firehouse on 19 Firehouse Lane, Flanders.

• Manorville Fire District

2015: $1,679,209 tax levy

2016:$1,713,134 tax levy (up 2 percent)

Hearing: Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at firehouse on 14 Silas Carter Road in Manorville
