William Zak

Lifelong Riverhead resident William Zak died Oct. 19 at his home. He was 89. 

He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Riverhead to Jacob and Antonina (Kacytl) Zak and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1947.

Mr. Zak served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 and worked as a foreman for New York Telephone Company.

Family members said he enjoyed gardening and yard sales.

Predeceased in August by his wife, Cecelia, whom he married May 28, 1950, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead, and his daughter, Marilyn Lane, in 1984, Mr. Zak is survived by his sons, William D. (Diane) of Calverton and Richard (Rain) of Southold; his sister, Jeanette Demerest; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Oct. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
