June C. Croon, who once headed the advertising department for the News-Review and who headed local perennial nursery The Plantage from 1997 until 2013, died suddenly at her home on Nov. 17. She was 70.

June was born June 22, 1945, to Eugene and Mathilda Gaudio of Brooklyn. June — following in the steps of her older sister, Lois Woodhull — attended the University of Maryland at College Park, graduating in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in theater. She worked briefly as an actress in the Washington, D.C., area and moved back to New York City shortly after the birth of her son.

In 1976 she and her son moved to Cutchogue to start over. June began selling advertising for the Long Island Traveler-Watchman but soon moved to the News-Review, eventually rising to the position of advertising director. She left the company in 1979.

June and her husband moved to Florida in 1988 but she returned in 1996, as her sister’s health failed. She returned to the Times/Review advertising department as a sales associate. Upon her sister’s death in 1997 June assumed control of the family-owned perennial nursery, The Plantage, which she would continuously manage until she retired in 2013.

June is survived by her only child, Christian Lepore, his wife, Melanie, and their children, Steven, Zoey and Hayden; and her cousins, Joyce Lake and Dana Kery.

Arrangements are entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.
