Cops: Riverhead man caught on video breaking into downtown store

Malik Rose

An 18-year-old man was arrested Sunday and charged with burglarizing a downtown business located in the same shopping center where another convenience store had been robbed twice earlier this month, Riverhead Town police said.

Malik Rose of Riverhead broke the glass door at Mi Casa Multi-Service during the overnight hours and stole six cell phones, police said. The suspect was caught breaking into the East Main Street store on surveillance video, officials said.

He was charged with third-degree burglary and held for an arraignment, police said.

In August, Mr. Rose was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and petit larceny at OK Petro on East Main Street, according to previous police reports.

Sunday’s incident marks the third robbery reported at the same shopping center this month.

Officers responded to an alarm at Damaris Multi-Service on Nov. 18 and found the glass front door was smashed and several cellphones were stolen, police said. This location was also robbed in broad daylight on Nov. 1, when a man armed with a handgun stole $2,300 from store’s cash register, officials said.

Within a day of the Nov. 1 robbery, police arrested Ishmael Norris. The 24-year-old homeless man was charged him with first-degree robbery, officials said.
