Calverton News: Stock the Shelves holiday food drive at Polish Hall

Polish Hall

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

My daughter Jamie came home with her boyfriend, Dan, and we all had a great weekend with my grandkids and their mom and dad. Thanks, Jaime and Robbie, for hosting a great dinner at your house. It was lots of fun!

Kent Animal Shelter will host its annual Pet Holiday Social Sunday, Dec. 6, from noon to 3 p.m. at Hotel Indigo in Riverhead. You can have a photo taken of your pet with Santa for a minimum donation of $10, which will be used to help homeless cats and dogs. There will also be a raffle, refreshments and homemade pet gifts made by volunteers for you to purchase. Can’t attend? Then feel free to stop by with donations of pet food, warm blankets, toys, etc. — anything to make their lives a little more joyful this holiday season.

If you’re looking for fresh greens to decorate your home, Baiting Hollow Congregational Church will have its annual Christmas greens sale Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a “white elephant” table and free refreshments. Stop by and get some beautiful, fresh decorations for your home.

Would you like to help make the holidays a little more special for folks who really need it? If so, there will be a Stock the Shelves holiday food drive Monday, Dec. 7, at Riverhead Polish Hall from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Kielbasa sandwiches, hot dogs and salads will be available to purchase. There will also be a cash bar and live music. Nonperishable food donations can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. A box truck has been donated by GMC and Ford in which to drop donations. Please consider helping; a little bit goes a long way.

Belated happy birthday to Amber Homfeld, who celebrated Nov. 28. Lots of love is being sent your way, especially from your little guy, Mason.

Happy birthday to my dog, Brookie, on Dec. 6. I love this little girl so much. Happy 5th birthday on the 11th to my amazing granddaughter, Julia, from your mommy and daddy, your little brother, Aiden, Auntie Jamie, and me, Grandma Amma. We all love you so much and wish you the best day ever! And to Anne McDonald, who I have the pleasure of working with, we all would like to wish you a very happy birthday on the 19th. Have a great day, sweetie!

This might sound a bit crazy but three of us heard peepers last Saturday. I wonder if anybody else has heard them and why they’re peeping now, as they are spring frogs.

That’s all for this week. I don’t even want to think about how close Christmas is, but get ready, it’s coming. Take care, be safe and I’ll talk to you next time. Bye.
