Pedestrian taken to hospital after being struck by own car; police search for driver

Police are searching for a man who struck a pedestrian on West Main Street in Riverhead with her own car, then dropped the woman and her vehicle off at Peconic Bay Medical Center early Sunday morning. 

The 40-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was struck shortly after midnight in the area of 1156 West Main Street, according to witnesses who spoke with police. The driver then helped the woman into the vehicle and drove off before police arrived on the scene.

The victim and the vehicle were later located at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where she was being treated before being transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

It was determined that the vehicle belonged to the victim, but police were unable to locate or identify the driver.
