Town Board discusses 225th Anniversary, downtown street fair

liveblog

The Riverhead Town Board on Thursday discussed upcoming plans to celebrate the town’s 225th Anniversary in 2016, along with the Business Improvement District’s plans for this year, which include a planned Thursday night street fair in the summer, along with the cardboard boat race, the Edgar Allan Poe festival and other ongoing events.

• The board also heard from residents of private roads in the Oak Hill area in Calverton, who say the town should be providing all road services to their community, not just snow plowing and cold patching. That did not get much of a reception from the board.

• Also, the board discussed moving its Feb. 2 meeting to a 7 p.m. start so they could hold a public hearing on a plan to rezone land on Mill Road to allow a 25-acre, 166-unit assisted living project.
