Assisted Living project planned for Jamesport site

The Riverhead Town Board discussed a proposed assisted living project for a 10-acre site on the north side of Route 25 in Jamesport at its work session Thursday.

The land in question had been owned by Julius Klein, who proposed a 42,000-square-foot commercial development with special permit approvals for bistro and professional offices. Mr. Klein lost the property in a bankruptcy proceeding, and its new owner, a group headed by developer Robert DiNoto is now proposing a 63,136-square-foot, 115-unit assisted living project. Mr. DiNoto originally proposed essentially the same application on the 9.172-acre site.

He’s calling the project Jamesport Commons. Mr. DiNoto said he does not plan to develop the 34 acres of farmland on the north part of the property.

Also on the agenda for Thursday was a discussion on the 2014 town audit, and a report from the town’s Independent Audit Committee that is critical of the town’s management of its municipal garage.
