Flanders News: Welcome our new community columnist

Hello, neighbors!

I would like to introduce myself as your new columnist covering this neck of the woods. I’ve been a resident of Flanders for over 25 years. It has been a blessing to raise my family here on the East End and to enjoy all of its offerings, from the beautiful bays to the refreshing ocean and its breezes that surround us here, providing an array of delectable seafood. What about the farms and all of the bountiful, colorful  produce available at harvest time? We live in a very special place and we need to keep it that way.

I look forward to learning more about the happenings in our wonderful community, made up of Flanders, Riverside and Northampton. This is YOUR column. I will try to include most of what comes across my desk. So … what’s happening? Let’s hear all about it! Deadline for submissions is Sunday afternoon. You can email news to [email protected]. My column will run on alternate weeks.

Hopefully everyone made it safely through the nor’easter. I hear Bayview Pines residents were without power for a time. This is when it’s especially good to have neighbors we can count on. My neighbor next door has been a blessing, plowing us out with his small tractor through the years. It’s a good time to pause and reflect and to be thankful for those “angels” in our lives who appear on the scene in our time of need. Having a community connection is so vital — as well as “paying it forward” when and where we can!

Anyone experiencing cabin fever? Then join the Friends of the Big Duck at its “1-2-3” party on Saturday, Feb. 27 (rescheduled from Jan. 23), from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Flanders Men’s Club, 1018 Flanders Road (located directly behind the Duck). WLNG radio’s Bob Aldrich will be the DJ. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds benefit the waterview restoration at Big Duck Ranch. For more information, call Fran at 631-727-5342. Sounds like it’ll be a good time to dance those winter blues away!

Looking forward to hearing what you have to share with all of us in my next column. Feel free to call at 631-494-8406 or email at [email protected].

Be well and try to keep those New Year’s resolutions in practice!
