Update (10:40 p.m.)

The National Weather Service has lifted a winter weather advisory, saying only a light dusting is now expected for Eastern Long Island. What had previously been forecast as four inches of snow has been changed to one to two inches along the cost with less than an inch inland.

“There remains a possibility that only a coating to less than inch occurs across the entire region during this time,” the NWS reported in a 10 p.m. update.

If you’re looking for a reprieve from the snow, the National Weather Service has bad news: another snowstorm is coming.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect starting Tuesday night as forecasts show another blast of wintery weather could leave a fresh coating of snow — up to 4 inches — by Wednesday afternoon.

According to NWS meteorologist Faye Barthold, scattered flurries today should give way to more steady snow by the evening. Snow will continue throughout the night and may be heavy at times depending on how the storm shapes out, she said.

The western edge of the North Fork — Wading River, Riverhead and Calverton — could see between 3 and 4 inches of snow. Accumulation is expected to drop off further east, with ranges around 1 to 2 inches, she said.

A few remaining flurries could continue into Thursday, but the rest of the week looks dry, Ms. Barthold said. Unfortunately, it’ll also be cold — very cold.

Temperatures will begin to drop as the week goes on, bottoming out on Sunday with highs in the upper teens, she said.
