Cops: Bellport man charged with shooting gun outside TGI Fridays

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday and charged with firing off a handgun outside TGI Fridays in Riverhead last November, according to a Riverhead Town police press release.

Xavier Cancel of Bellport allegedly shot the restaurant’s exterior and an unoccupied vehicle at around 12:10 a.m. Nov. 26, police said.

He was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and second degree reckless endangerment, officials said.

Mr. Cancel, who police say is incarcerated at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility for an unrelated matter, was arraigned Tuesday in Riverhead Justice Court, officials said.

Bail was set at $25,000 and Mr. Cancel was taken back to jail, police said.

According online documents, Suffolk County police arrested Mr. Cancel on Dec. 9 on felony weapons and drug charges. He’s being held on $35,000 cash bail or $70,000 bond.
