Calverton News: Kent Animal Shelter’s ‘Beat the Heat’ spaying campaign

Well, I hope your team won the Super Bowl. As I write this it’s still too early to tell who won, but hopefully it’s a good game with lots of good snacks for everyone.

Kent Animal Shelter will host a “funny” fundraiser, “Laughter Saves Lives.” The evening of comedy will be held Friday, April 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hotel Indigo in Riverhead and will feature hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, a chinese auction, a traveling pet boutique, adoptable pets, a scavenger hunt and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $30 in advance; $35 at the door. Come on out, have some fun and help support these little friends who need us. Kent is also hosting a “Beat the Heat” spaying campaign during February for female cats, sponsored by PetSmart Charities. The cost is $20. Cats can safely be spayed/neutered as young as 8 to 10 weeks old. Spaying cats in advance of the heat cycle will prevent unwanted litters this spring. For more information, call 631-727-5731. Many thanks to PetSmart Charities and Kent Animal Shelter for doing so much for all of us.

Belated happy 60th birthday to Phil Zizzo, who celebrated at a brunch Jan. 24. Happy birthday from everyone, including your awesome wife. Phil’s daughter Lauren celebrated her 34th birthday on Jan. 27. Best wishes, with love from your mom and dad and all your family and friends. We hope you had a simply perfect birthday. Belated wishes also go out to Miriam Niejocki, who celebrated Feb. 5 with a bit of snow. Your husband, your daughter, Joan, and I hope you had a great birthday, Miriam. And finally, belated happy birthday wishes to Trisha Yakaboski, who celebrated Feb. 6. She is now 20 days older than my daughter Jaime, and believe me, they always laugh about it every year. A very happy birthday, Trish, from all your family (especially those two handsome sons of yours) and your daycare kids. We hope you had a great day, sweetie.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether your sweetie is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, or your pet, have a really great, fun day.

That’s all for this week. I hope you’re enjoying the snow; I know I am. Hopefully we’ll get a little bit more before the daffodils start to pop up.

Take care, be safe and I’ll talk to you soon. Bye.
