SWR cheerleaders finish 2nd at inaugural county championship

The Shoreham-Wading River cheerleading team made history Saturday.

The Wildcats were the first team to compete at the inaugural Section XI Championships — the first county meet since cheerleading was officially sanctioned as a sport in New York in 2014.

The Wildcats’ nine-girl team competed in Division II, Small against Hampton Bays, Sayville and Babylon at Longwood High School, the first of three meets. First place went to Babylon. Sayville finished third and Hampton Bays fourth after each team completed its 2 minutes, 30 seconds routine.
