Calverton News: St. Patrick’s Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner

So, along with the warm weather this past weekend, NASCAR kicked off its first race of the year — the Daytona 500.

It was a bit more special this year because Denny Hamlin’s crew chief is Southold native Mike Wheeler. The entire gang at Riverhead Raceway knows Mike. It was great to see him being interviewed right after they won the race. Keep your eyes peeled as this is a great team. Congratulations and best of luck!

The Riverhead Lions Club will once again host its St. Patrick’s Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner Saturday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at Riverhead Polish Hall. Ticket prices are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $14 for children under 10. Along with a great dinner you’ll enjoy award-winning Irish step-dancers, bagpipes, traditional Irish music and lots of fun. You may purchase your tickets at Barth’s Drug Store, 631-727-2125, or at the Law Office of Peter Danowski, 631-727-4900.

Belated happy birthday to Addison White. She turned 5 years old recently and celebrated with a princess tea party at her house with her girlfriends. A very happy birthday to you from your mom and dad, your brother, Brody, and AJ. Belated wishes also go out to Calverton resident Helen Herbst, from your husband, Chris, your two children, and all your family and friends. We hope you had a great day. And to Sara Hodun, who celebrated her birthday on the 18th, all your family and friends hope you had a great day.

Happy birthday to my daughter, Jamie, who will celebrate with us Feb. 26. We, especially Julia and Aiden, hope you have a perfect birthday. As a matter of fact, I’ll make sure you will. I love you. Happy birthday also to my neighbor Joan Niejocki, who will celebrate on the 27th. I’ll make sure you have a great birthday too, Joan! Best wishes with love from your mom and dad, Mimi, and all who know you and love you. Have a great day!

You might want to pick a few forsythia branches and bring them inside as they will bloom within a few weeks in your warm house. It’s a nice, fun way to bring a touch of spring into your home a little earlier.

Baiting Hollow said goodbye to Fritz Lewin this past week. Fritz was a fun guy, a great farmer, and we all enjoyed him. My love to your family. May you treasure your memories.

That’s all for this week but I shall talk to you soon. Be safe and take care. Bye.
