Cops: Man threw crack pipe out car window in Flanders

A West Babylon man was arrested on drug charges early Sunday morning after he was observed throwing a crack pipe out of a car window in Flanders, Southampton Town police said. 

Darnell Giles, 49, was a passenger in a car that had been stopped on Evergreen Road for a traffic infraction, police said. During the stop, an officer saw him throw the pipe, which was loaded with crack cocaine, from the window, police said.

He was arrested at the scene and charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and issued a violation for littering, according to police.

He was held at police headquarters for a Sunday morning arraignment, police said.
