Aquebogue News: Annual Soup Supper event scheduled

Happy spring — almost!

The first day of spring is March 20, which is also Palm Sunday. I’m sure you can feel it in the air. I’m up very early (usually by 4 a.m.) and have been greeted with some bird songs. I also saw some robins in the yard over the past week so I’m hoping that means we’re done with the snow and spring is truly on the horizon.

Riverhead Lions Club is pleased to announce that tickets are now available for the annual St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage dinner, which will be held Saturday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at Riverhead Polish Hall, 214 Marcy Ave. Tickets include dinner and soft drinks. Featured will be award-winning Irish step-dancers, bagpipes, traditional Irish Music, a 50/50 raffle and more. Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for seniors and $14 for children under 10 and can be purchased at Barth’s Drug Store in Riverhead, 631-727-2125, or at the Law Office of Peter Danowski, 631-727-4900.

Living Water Church will host its annual Easter production, “Behold the Lamb,” Friday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 20, at 3 p.m. at the Living Water Theatre, 24 Shade Tree Lane in Riverhead. This power-filled production portrays the life of Jesus through song, dance and drama. Tickets purchased in advance are $12 for adults and $9 for children and seniors; all tickets at the door are $15. Proceeds will benefit Living Water Summer Camp, a local outreach program for children ages 4-12. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit lwfgc.org or call 631-722-4969, ext. 204.

On March 19 the East End Emerald Society (eastendemeraldsociety.com) will host the 3rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Main Street in Jamesport. The parade assembles at 1 p.m. and begins promptly at 2 p.m. The route follows North Railroad and Washington avenues and continues along the Main Road to the firehouse. Participants include many fire departments, marching bands, Irish dancers, and feature fife and drums and bagpipes. Come celebrate, beat the cabin fever and say hello to some neighbors.

Save the date! Old Steeple Community Church’s annual Soup Supper will be held Sunday, April 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets — $12 for adults and $9 for children under 10 — include a variety soups, bread, beverages and desserts and can be purchased by calling Lenny at 631-722-3580. For more information, email Donna at [email protected].

Johanna and I and her CCI service dog, Rae, are headed to Nashville this week to speak at a women’s conference. We’re going to do some sight-seeing and get Jo some new cowboy boots. See y’all at the parade!
