Riverhead News: Easter egg hunt at Riverhead Moose Lodge

A Teen Art Show, featuring artwork by Riverhead High School students in grades 9-12, is currently on display at Riverhead Free Library through March 23. An opening reception was held March 4. The event is sponsored by the Friends of Riverhead Free Library and the Youth and Family Services department and is dedicated in memory of Vincent Nasta, who was a beloved RHS art teacher. Be sure to stop by and take a look.

Teens are encouraged to visit the library and check out all the new books available. There are so many popular authors, as well as new ones!

Members of the Suffolk Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently gathered for their annual tea honoring local high school winners of DAR’s Good Citizens Award. The winners — Juliet Fusco, a senior at Bishop McGann-Mercy High School, and Claire Beaver, a senior at Westhampton Beach High School — were then selected to compete at the district-level competition. Both Claire and Juliet were presented with a DAR certificate and pin and given a small monetary award. Nicholas Waldron of Riverhead High School also won the Good Citizen Award but was not present. The tea also honored DAR’s 2015 Community Service Award winner, Jane Alcorn, who was recognized for her efforts to raise funds to purchase the 16-acre parcel at Tesla’s Lab in Shoreham. She is currently president of the Tesla Science Center.

Congratulations and best of luck to Shaqira Sutton of Riverhead, who has been chosen to participate in the 2016 Miss Teen pageant competition. My husband, Joe, is on the road to recovery and is doing quite well considering all he has gone through. The surgeon has allowed him to drive and thus begins physical therapy to strengthen his core muscles. Thanks for the cards, calls and well wishes!
