Flanders News: Easter Duck Egg Hunt at Big Duck Ranch

A very Happy St. Patrick’s Day, friends and neighbors. I hope you are all donning your green because today EVERYONE is Irish! I’ll be wearing my wool, green shamrock sweater as I do every year. The sweater came from Ireland several years back when I had lived there for almost a year. What a wonderful and beautiful country Ireland is indeed.

Mark your calendars for the following events:

The Friends of the Big Duck and the Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Co. will host the annual Easter Duck Egg Hunt Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at Big Duck Ranch. The rain date is April 2. This event is open to children ages 2-9. Prizes for finding golden eggs will be awarded. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

‘A Spring Fling,’ hosted by the Friends of the Big Duck, the Water’s Edge Civic Association and the Bay View Pines Civic and Taxpayers Association, will be held Saturday, April 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Flanders’s Men’s Club, located off Flanders Road (just east of the Big Duck). The event will feature a delicious buffet dinner, a cash bar and a DJ to keep the party hopping! Tickets are $25 per person and only 100 will be sold. RSVP by March 26. For more information and tickets, call 631-727-5787. Don’t miss it!

Vendors are needed for the Friends of the Big Duck’s Craft Sale and Flea Market, scheduled for Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Big Duck Ranch. The rain date is Sunday, May 22. A 10’ by 10’ space for vendors is $50. For further information, call 631-727-0593.

Good news! Luna, the dog from Pleasure Drive in Flanders who was lost, has been found! I hear she returned home on her own after being at-large for more than a week. We are happy to hear she is safe and sound.

I look forward to hearing more good news and happenings in and around our community. This column runs every other week. The deadline for submissions is Sunday afternoon. Please feel free to share your news!

I’d like to close my column with an old Irish blessing my 100-year-old Irish grandmother still loves to hear: “May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.” Make it a GOOD day!
