Group robs pair in park, steals sneakers and cell phone

Two teenagers were robbed in a Riverhead park last night by a group of eight men and two women, according to a report made to police.

Police said that around 8:50 p.m., they responded to a report that someone had just been assaulted in the area and upon arrival, they found that two teenagers were robbed in a park near Oakland Drive West.

After speaking with the victims, police said the two were surrounded by the group of eight black males and two black females. Two of the man allegedly displayed knives; the group then stole one victim’s sneakers and the other victim’s cell phone.

One sustained a head injury in the incident when he was punched in the face, police said.

He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 727-4500. All calls will remain confidential.
