Riverhead News: See what’s going on at the library this week
Riverhead Free Library will celebrate its 120th anniversary Saturday, April 2, at 1:20 p.m. Come join in the celebration!
There will be some old-fashioned music, light refreshments (including gluten-free desserts), and bookmarks will be given to all who attend. Proclamations will also be presented by local politicians. If you have an old photo of the library or a heartfelt story to share, email them to [email protected].
The library’s Teen Reading Club, “Detour of Sleep,” competed in the Advanced Battle of the Books held at Connetquot High School on March 4. The team came in ninth place out of 20 Suffolk County libraries that fielded a team. Congratulations to team members Alexis Schmidt, Mary Kate Teresky, Angelika Osiniak, Keeley McCabe, Josie Manucha, Philip Kenter, Evelyn Kennedy-Jaffe, Brandon Lynn, Dominick Bossey and Nico Bossey. The coaches were Joyce Rienzo, teen librarian, Paulette Sherman and Kayleigh Teresky. Great job, everyone!
Here are some other library events: Friday, April 1, at 7 p.m. — “What’s for Dinner?” for grades 5-12. Make a trick “fish stick dinner” for April Fools’ Day.; Monday, April 4, at 7 p.m. — “Meet the Breeds” for grades 3-8 featuring the “Husky Brothers.” ; Friday, April 8, at 6 p.m. is Friday Night Fun Art Studio for grades 5-8. Be creative; supplies provided; April is National Poetry Month at RFL. Bring in your original poems to be displayed on the Poet Tree; National Library Week is April 10-16. The theme is “Libraries Transform.” Tell us how the library has changed you by writing your story on the “butterfly wall.”
RFL’s budget vote will take place Tuesday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
My husband, Joe, has started physical therapy. It seems to be helping him and he’s also enjoying it. He also visited some friends he made while at the Riverhead Care Center and introduced them to our miniature dachshund, Ashes.

Get well wishes to Bo Goodale. I hope his family hangs tough throughout his ordeal. It’s so hard to see a family member go through all he has and all we can do is keep the prayers coming.
