Cops: Flanders men caught with U-Haul of stolen goods

Burglary

Two Flanders men driving in a U-Haul truck filled with stolen goods were arrested after a traffic stop Sunday night, Southampton Town police said.

A West Babylon man was also charged in connection with a home burglary in Southampton. Police said the truck was stopped in the overnight hours Sunday and an officer noticed it was stocked with brand new appliances. Detectives were called to investigate and the three men were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony.

Christopher W. Stewart, 43, and Matthew R. Manzella, 27, were the two Flanders men charged along with Darnell W. Giles, 49. They were all charged with possession of burglar tools and possession of stolen property as well, police said.

Detectives discovered the men had also stolen construction power tools from a Southampton job site on Sebonac Road. The home burglary was on North Sea Mecox Road, police said.

Mr. Giles and Mr. Stewart were remanded without bail following an arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court Monday, police said. Mr. Manzella was remanded in lieu of $6,000 bail, police said.
