John J. Carey

Former longtime Jamesport resident John J. Carey died April 18 at the age of 95. He had recently been a resident at Oasis Rehabilitation and Nursing in Center Moriches. 

Mr. Carey was the son of Robert and Marguerite (McGoey) Carey and was born Jan. 14, 1921.

Family members said he found joy in playing the piano and was very devoted to his faith.

Mr. Carey was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Walter, and his sisters, Marguerite “Sis” Hurley, Dorothy Carey and Catherine “Babe” Bennett. He is survived by nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Friends and family attending are requested to meet at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home at 8:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
