Riverhead Town residents are getting another chance to safely dispose of their unused, unwanted or expired medications.

The Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth has organized a drug take-back event this Saturday, April 30, at Peconic Bay Medical Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Community members will be greeted by our coalition and law enforcement, who will dispose of the medications for you so that you do not even have to get out of your car,” said Kelly Miloski, a community prevention specialist with the nonprofit group.

The coalition will offer giveaways to all community members that participate in the event.

Riverehead CAP is also planning another drug take-back day for Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Riverhead Highway Department.

The group, which aims to reduce and prevent drug and alcohol abuse, said disposing of unwanted medicine can prevent the drugs from being accidentally or intentionally misused. Safely disposing of drugs also keeps medication from flowing into local waterways.

Previous efforts by the group have pulled in more than 1,000 pounds of unwanted drugs.

If you can’t make it to the drug take-back events, then visit the drop box anytime in the lobby of the Riverhead Police Department headquarters on Howell Avenue.
