Riverhead Town police with the assistance of Suffolk County police are investigating a bank robbery at the Capital One in downtown Riverhead.

The robbery occurred at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at the East Main Street bank, said Riverhead Sgt. Jonathan Devereaux.

Police said in a press release that a 911 caller reported a black man with a bald head in his 30s had robbed the bank and fled on foot westbound on East Main Street with an undisclosed amount of money. Police responded and set up a perimeter and a K-9 unit responded to the scene to assist police in the initial search, Sgt. Devereaux said. The suspect was not located.

“We’re deciphering all the information through the video and processing some evidence and once we completed everything we’ll put out a description as well as any photos,” Sgt. Devereaux said at the scene at 7 p.m.

Riverhead detectives along with the Suffolk County Police Identification Section are investigating the robbery. Police are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to call police at 631-727-4500. All calls will remain confidential.
