Hello, everyone! I hope all of you are enjoying this beautiful weather.
My name is Kathy Kruel and I will be writing the community column for the Flanders/ Riverside/Northampton area. A little about me: I have been living in Flanders for 29 years. I have two children and I love to rescue animals. Most people know me from the Flanders Neighborhood Watch, which I started with Mimi Corwin over 20 years ago. I am very active in our area because I love and I am very proud of where I live. We have a beautiful community filled with wonderful people. I’m very excited to be writing about all the events that go on here and the news of my neighbors.
The ospreys are back at the Flanders Road and Route 105 intersection. That means spring has officially sprung! It also means the kids will be outside playing, so please be aware while driving.
If you have not checked out the Riverside Rediscovered office at 108 Peconic Ave. in Riverhead, stop by and check out all of the plans for the Riverside area. The office is open Monday to Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, 1 to 6 p.m.; and by appointment Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number is 631-591-3926. They also hold monthly meetings; the next one will be Thursday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m.
I want to share a few things that will be going on in our community in May.
The Bay View Pines Association meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the Crohan community center.
The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association will meet at the Crohan center Monday, May 9, at 7 p.m. During that meeting, the group will be awarding scholarships.
The community garden planting at the Crohan center will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 14. Bagels and coffee will be served. All are welcome.
If you have news of a community event, anniversary, birthday, graduation, etc., that you would like me to include in this column, which will appear every other week, please contact me at 631-727-5530.
