A Riverhead man was charged with two misdemeanors for drug possession and aggravated unlicensed driving after police caught him with hashish during a traffic stop in North Sea Tuesday afternoon, according to a Southampton Town police news release.

Police said an cop was patrolling the area about 4:30 p.m. when the officer spotted a vehicle with equipment violations, the release states. The cop pulled over the driver, 24-year-old Hayden Dixon of Riverhead, and discovered Mr. Dixon’s driving privileges had been suspended by the state Department of Motor Vehicles, police said.

The officer also noticed that there was “a quantity of hashish in Dixon’s vehicle in plain view” and arrested Mr. Dixon at the scene, according to the news release. Police said they found he was also in possession of more marihuana.

Mr. Dixon was taken to Southampton Town Police Headquarters and charged with misdemeanor aggravated unlicensed driving and criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as a violation for marijuana possession and equipment violations, police said.

He was processed and given a ticket with a future date to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court.
