Board to discuss new solar contract at landfill

The Riverhead Town Board will vote at a special meeting Thursday to award a new solar energy contract, but this time for land on the former town landfill rather than at Enterprise Park at Calverton. The site will also need to be approved by LIPA. The town still has not received any money from a solar energy proposal the LIPA selected in 2014 at EPCAL.

The board also will voted on an a grant application for the EPCAL bike path, a proposal from NBC to film a commercial at EPCAL using drones, an amendment to its bunker removal budget now that Southampton Town has agreed to help, and a PBA contract issue relating to an officer who had to retire due to serious injuries sustained on the job a few years ago.

Work session discussions include the Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival, and an update from the town’s real estate brokers at EPCAL, among other things.

The special meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. and the work session starts at 10 a.m. News-Review reporter Tim Gannon will be live blogging.
