Cops: Riverhead rapper shot outside North Patchogue club

Unknown

A 30-year-old rapper from Riverhead was shot early Friday morning after performing at a North Patchogue nightclub, Suffolk County police said.

Donte Hobson — known by his stage name “BOP” — was standing outside the VIP Lounge on Waverly Avenue with a “large group of people” about 1:30 a.m. when he was shot in the stomach, according to a police press release.

Police described the suspected shooter as a “dark-skinned black male.” No other details about the suspect were immediately available and no arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon.

Mr. Hobson had just performed with a group in the club before the shooting, police said. Several witnesses fled the scene before police arrived on scene, officials said.

Mr. Hobson was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was treated and released, police said.

The investigation is continuing and detectives have asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
