The driver of a van was injured Monday morning in a single-car accident, Riverhead police said.
According to a news release, a 911 caller alerted police to the accident on Route 25 just west of a gas station in Calverton about 7:40 a.m. After cops got to the scene, they found a 2001 Ford van “against a tree on the north side of the roadway” with only the man inside, according to the report.
The driver was pinned inside the vehicle and had to be freed by Riverhead firefighters, police said. He was taken to Stony Brook University hospital by Riverhead ambulance volunteers for treatment, according to the report. An update on his condition was not immediately available.
Riverhead police detectives are still investigating the crash. Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the
