Robert W. Lehmann of Baiting Hollow passed away May 22 at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He was 92 years old.

Mr. Lehmann was born in Queens County, N.Y. to Frederick and Dorothy (Kunzer) Lehmann on March 18, 1924.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Reported MIA during the Battle of Anzio, a year later he was later identified as a POW by the Red Cross.

A decorated policeman and detective with the New York City Police Department he retired after 21 years. He then worked as an insurance investigator. In his leisure time, he enjoyed surf fishing, landscaping, painting, the theater and listening to jazz music.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Irma (née Morley) Lehmann and three children, Robert of Baiting Hollow, James of Maryland, Marlene of Florida; his brother Frederick; a niece Lori; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service and inurnment with U.S. Army honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at Calverton National Cemetery.
